Where is Home?
Created by Stephanie Loeh, Shila Scott, and Kristen Waltz in West Chester University's Fall 2014 "Great Migration and Digital Storytelling" course, this piece uses the voices of Ella Lee, Lillie McKnight, Beulah Collins, and Minnie Whitney—four African-American women who journeyed north to Philadelphia during the First Great Migration—to explore the challenges of culture, labor, and gender. Each woman worked as a domestic servant in the home of a white family, while struggling to establish "home" in this foreign, northern city.
